I spy with my little eye bLog 8

The new millenium will be full of new technologies. Soon we will be able to watch TV from anywhere. We will have TV on our ipods and cellphones. Commercials on all stations will be like FOX and have timers telling you when the program will come back on. With all these new things people will be running out of time all over the world. Speedy appliances and commercials will be the more popular ones. Hey Woody. TV shows will be short focused and be changing quickly to keep the attention of viewers and flippers. People will become short focused and be easily bored in office jobs because of that. We will need on the job focus training to get jobs. The person who stares at the apple the longest without getting distracted will most likely get the job. TVs will be used to connect to the internet and phone lines. You can call people and email people from your TV.

7 is not here right now

Hey class, this blog is about media and what we've learned. I feel that media purposely overwhelms everyone. It is almost numbing and therefore very important to learn all about it. I feel as though I am less affected by commercials and I can just get what I want out of all the hidden messages. I can expect many people to still be deeply affected and have some bizarre impacts. Humans are different and the same, we can see what the majority of people might do, but there will always be those who stray away from the majority. These days we tend to get up in arms about the minority. We make changes on the majority for problems in the minority. A game may cause violence in some people, but so far all I see is the majority have no violent affect whatsoever. Why should we censor violent video games if it impacts negatively less people than the people who are unaffected? Experience will always have some people who know that their son or friend was violent due to video games. They should practice censorship in their own home. It's all about responsibilities and maybe discretion.

What I think about that? It makes me really want a drilling motor. Just kidding, I don't really see the point of the drilling motor, but I could really go for a Snapple right now. That plumegranit thing looked really dumb, and chicks don't like that kind of thing. I think I like this kind of advertising much better. People pay more attention to it and it plays on the characters personalities in the show. When I hear "sponsored by," I usually leave the room. I think it would be effective, or at least more effective if ads were done this way. Well... okay. I'm done.

I went cruising around myspace today. I watched some of the ads that popped up. Based on the types of ads that I saw, I am pretty sure that they know my gender, age, and location. I've heard how the ads on google work. When you type in a search, related ads appear off to the side.

On the topic of gender stereotypes and media gender representation. I think that media and stereotypes stunt the growth of the personalities of teens. I don't know if it's just me, but don't people have to have some form of attraction to attract a partner? Sex appeal in my opinion is the easiest way to catch the eye of that special person. It's so basic and it's our nature to do that kind of thing anyway. It also attracts attention and subscribers. There are other ways to get someones attention though. There is always personality. How do you take a picture of personality? How could we get the media to show more personality? If we could figure out how to do it then I think it would impact us greatly and show us that there are other ways to go out looking. In no way do people need to be the same, develop a personality by just being yourself. With that personality you could meet more sophisticated people. It is the people's choice to what the people buy, you can't stop the people who want sexy magazines from getting those sexy magazines. Buy what interests you, show some personality and buy that cooking magazine since you love to cook. I tend to see people as works of art, their body like a sculpture or picture and their personality like a poem or a work of writing. I'm sure I have no clue what I'm talking about by now.

So for this blog topic I was watching Spongebob Squarepants. I was scanning the sheet while it was on the air to decide on which values I could make out. I could make out what resembled 4-5 values. Humanitarianism, efficiency, material comfort, and either Individualism or Conformity. Spongebob was trying to help Mr. Crabs and his whacky idea to get rich quick(efficency?), he had to distract the innocent children while Crabs counted money. I believe this shows how if you want to be efficient, you have to keep in mind the people you are directly affecting. I think it tells us to value humanitarianism.

Banana! bLog 2 (option two)

So information is going all over the web? I'd hope the only people getting my information are the people or organization that I sent it to. They should be the ones responsible for my information stolen in transit to them. I won't argue with the government(or FTC or whatever) policing the interwebs either. I don't surf the cyber seas often, but if I were to slip and wipe out on some radical game wavage, I would love to not have my identity stolen. I don't want people on some other planet knowing my phone number and asking if I want a windshield waxing done right. I guess there's no way to keep you private if you don't want to be. It's important to protect even the most dimwitted of people. Like the report says, privacy is becoming important because of our lack of it. Depending on the situation safety and privacy struggle for power. What do you think? Should I go on?

So I did the homework assignment where I had to interview some people about media. I had to ask them two questions and I had to make another third question to ask them too. Now I have to make a blog about it.

I asked three people "What is "media"?" They all had pretty odd ways of saying that it was a form of communication. I think my father said it the best, "Anything that facilitates communication." He made sure I used the word facilitates and not use "uses" like I asked him if I could.

The second question was "How do the "media" impact your life?" This time they went with statements on getting information and how they put it to use. My dad I think was the most on topic with this question by saying, "It helps me decide on everyday things I do." To benefit from information you have to put it to use, right?

My third one got a little tricky. I asked, "Without media, how would your life change?" My dad went with the idea that it's not even possible to not have media because we couldn't work together without communication. I couldn't agree more. The other two went with living without mass media. They went with less informed about things in the other parts of the world and better lives here and now.

If you think about it, media is the backbone behind civilization. Without it we would never let our ideas spread and never gotten along to work together towards a common goal. Take it away and we are almost animals. In my opinion that's what makes it so important to have a class about it.
